Dr. Amy (Krauss) Mead received her Bachelor of Science in Biology (1990) and her Master’s degree in Public (Environmental) Policy (1992) from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She obtained her DVM degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1999. She practiced in Indiana for 12 years, then Minnesota for 14 years before moving to North Carolina in 2025. ,

Dr. Mead is a member of the AVMA, the AAHA, and the Feline VMA. She served for 5 years on the AVMA's Committee on Environmental Issues in Veterinary Medicine, 2 years on the AAHA's Leadership Council, and one year on the MVMA's Small Animal Welfare Committee. Her special interests include Internal Medicine and Feline Medicine, and using Fear Free practices to decrease her patient’s stress and anxiety during veterinary visits. She is a Level 3 Fear Free certified veterinarian and certified Feline Friendly practitioner. She is also interested in Animal Welfare issues and has volunteered for the Humane Society of the United States and vetted for local rescues. Her Masters program included working for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources both the Bald Eagle and Peregrine Falcon Reintroduction program in Indiana.

Dr. Mead most enjoys working up medical cases, and considers compassionate client communication, education, and the development of strong client and patient bonds of honesty and trust as the most valued part of being a veterinarian. She loves that she still stays in touch with some of her clients from over 25 years ago.

Dr. Mead’s husband Tim is a semi-retired college professor. They share their home with their dog Merlin and kitty Grizzly. Dr. Mead is an avid open water swimmer and certified Adult Learn to Swim Instructor, Masters swimming coach and operates a small sourdough microbakery out of her home. In her spare time, Dr. Mead enjoys teaching swim lessons, baking all things sourdough, competing in open water swimming events, travelling, bicycling, cooking, and reading.
